Street Smarts is providing site planning, civil/site engineering, landscape architecture, topographic surveying, and subsurface utility engineering for the expansion of the Fort Stewart Winn Army Community Hospital (WACH). The medical clinic addition is located within the existing WACH site. The project will involve the demolition of existing structures, driveways, parking facilities, and utilities in order to prepare the site for the medical clinic addition. Grading design will be performed in order to raise the site for the proposed clinic addition and new parking area. An existing parking area will also be expanded to provide additional parking. Civil utilities to be designed include storm drainage, sanitary sewer and a water main. Innovative low impact development (LID) stormwater management practices, including infiltration basins, a permeable interlocking concrete paver pavement system, and downspout disconnection will be implemented to minimize impacts on aquatic resources. Condensate from the expansion's HVAC systems will be collected in a cistern and reused for landscape irrigation to eliminate the use of potable water for irrigation purposes. Landscaping and erosion control will also be addressed as part of the project. Final design of the medical clinic addition, which is being designed to be certifiable for LEED Silver, is expected to be complete by the end of 2010.
