Data Smarts Studies DFW Airport

DFW Airport logo

Data Smarts was called on by URS/Lopez Garcia Group to assist Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (DFW) in studying alternatives for a Consolidated Receiving and Distribution Center (CRDC). The data being assembled and analyzed will be used for financial, landside operations, airside operations, and emissions analyses.

The data are organized by operational areas such as: Concessions, Construction, Waste/Recycling, Maintenance/Custodial, Air Passenger Cargo, and Airline Catering.

Conquering Language Barriers

Data Smarts recently provided support for the Florida Department of Transportation regional transportation plan for Palm Beach County. Survey data collected will be used to improve transit operations and route planning for Palm Tran, the primary public transit provider in Palm Beach County.

Accommodating not just the English- and Spanish-speaking riders in the area, Data Smarts also created a Creole language version of the survey in response to the demographics of the area. Interviews and passenger counts will help increase Palm Tran's understanding of the area's public transit customers for future planning and marketing.

Ride Check©

GTA Sign  GTA Bus

Data Smarts conducted a system-wide data collection effort to capture the passenger activity on every route in the Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) bus system. The Ride Check© program, develop by Street Smarts/Data Smarts for handheld computers, provided an accurate and efficient way of entering data directly into a handheld computer, and subsequently downloading it into a PC for processing and analysis. Mail back questionnaires were also distributed at various locations throughout Greensboro for the purpose of addressing local interest in Sunday bus service.

Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Freight Mobility Plan

Truck Survey

Using handheld computers to collect information, Data Smarts conducted interviews with truck drivers traveling throughout Atlanta regarding their trip origin, trip destination, and routes used. The data collected was used to identify alternative strategies for accommodating truck traffic in the Atlanta area.

I-40 Business Winston-Salem Area Origin-Destination Study

Data Smarts was selected as part of a team to conduct a comprehensive traffic study of the I-40 Business corridor in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The purpose of this study was to determine traffic volumes/direction, identify truck routes, bottlenecks, and future transportation needs.

Our methodology included distribution of postage-paid interview postcards to motorists and an accompanying website for those motorists who preferred to respond online. Responses were tabulated and resulted in a variety of GIS databases in map format showing origins and destinations of the motorists.
